Gary Neal's Buzzer-Beating Three Keeps The Spurs Alive
Gary Neal, everyone's favorite 26-year-old rookie/ former Turkish basketball star/ mystery man, was naturally the one to rescue the Spurs' season with this buzzer-beating three-pointer over O.J. Mayo on Wednesday night.
As he tends to do, Gregg Popovich expertly managed the clock in the final minute, and his Spurs — despite one bobbling possession — managed to create the space for the shots they needed when it mattered. Manu Ginobili's falling shot only counted for two, and so the unlikely rookie (if only for his roundabout journey to the NBA; you'll hear from this abysmal announcing job that Neal actually leads league rookies in three-point percentage this year) stepped up for the Spurs.
They went on to win in overtime, 110-103. The Grizzlies lead the series 3-2 and will try to take home the franchise's first ever postseason series on Friday night in Memphis. And even if they do, Gary Neal will still get his book deal.
