Future Georgetown Hoya Mac McClung Is Not Bad
You may have heard that the valiant Duke Blue Devils did not win the 2018 NCAA men’s basketball tournament. Truly a shame for everyone. (But please, don’t be too upset, as next year’s recruiting class is truly ridiculous.) In addition to the emotional distress that I experienced due to my alma mater’s failure in this regard a few weeks ago, I also suffered some professional distress. I’d made a bet with my colleague Laura Wagner—a graduate of the dreaded Georgetown University—that I would write and publish a blog post about her school’s “basketball” “program” if Duke did not win the title. What, though, could the Georgetown Hoyas possibly offer that was worthy of a blog???
At last, here is something: Georgetown recruit Mac McClung has been named THE boys’ basketball player of the year by the one and only Bristol Herald Courier! And for the second year in a row, at that!
The 6-foot-2 McClung scored 47 points to lead his team to victory in last month’s Virginia High School League Class 2 boys basketball championship game. That wraps a senior season in which he averaged 38.4 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 3.0 steals per game. He brings his talents to a Georgetown squad that went 15-15 under rookie head coach Patrick Ewing this season, bolstered by a stupidly easy non-conference schedule. (Their Big East record was 5-13.)
McClung’s strong stat line comes with a history of sweet dunks, too:
If you would like to see some real good dunks, however, please check out these by Duke commit Zion Williamson.
