Former MLB Player, Manager, And Coach Don Zimmer Dies At 83
Don Zimmer, a presence in MLB who had most recently served as a baseball advisor for the Tampa Bay Rays, has died. He was 83.
Zimmer was a player—most notably for the Dodgers, before and after the move to Los Angeles—manager, and coach for various teams over a 66-year career in the MLB. He had worked for the Rays since 2004.
Beau Zimmer, a WTSP-10 reporter and grandson of Don, mentioned his grandfather's death on Twitter.
Zimmer required heart surgery on April 16 but had been hospitalized since then. Rays third base coach Tom Foley wore Zimmer's jersey while Zimmer recovered.
