Fight During Race Doesn't Even Interrupt Track Meet
Track meets can be interminably long affairs, what with all of the various heats for all of the various races. Most meets, then, run on a tight schedule with little time for interruption—even when there's a brawl in the middle of a race, apparently.
Saturday's Hispanic Games—a prestigious high school meet at the New York Armory—was no different. The second leg of one of the heats of the boys 4 x 400-meter relay was bounding along just fine, at least until runners from Mount Vernon and Thomas Jefferson just started swinging at one another. But other than the boys' teammates and a couple of coaches, no one—not even the race's play-by-play announcer—really even seemed to notice.
