Fed-Up Horse Hops Fence, Briefly Escapes Horse Show
credits: Action News The Devon Horse Show, the oldest multi-breed horse show in the United States, is currently happening in suburban Philadelphia, but one horse did not care about any storied tradition or pageantry. Last night Action News obtained footage of the rogue horse making a break for it.
Pay attention to Philly anchor Jim Gardner’s narration of this scene, which is excellent. “One of the horses breaks loose, hurdles the fence and the stands and makes a run for it,” he says. “The stunned crowd was screaming as the horse ran back toward the stable area.”
A media representative from the Devon Horse Show described the incident to Deadspin:
On Tuesday evening during the Single Harness Pleasure Turnout class at the Devon Horse Show & Country Fair, the hub of the carriage driven by Rachel Shoemaker caught on the Dixon Oval ring fence. Shoemaker’s American Saddlebred became detached from the carriage and jumped out of the ring. He was safely caught in the stable area, shipped home and was checked by the veterinarian. He received minor scrapes. Ms. Shoemaker immediately dismounted from the carriage and was not harmed.
There you have it: The horse didn’t complete his escape, but he’s OK.
