Eric Decker Will Get His Shoulder Repaired As Soon As His Repaired Hip Heals
Photo: Bill Kostroun/ [object Object] The New York Jets placed wide receiver Eric Decker on injured reserve on Oct. 12 after he partially tore his rotator cuff in September. Decker will need surgery on his shoulder, but before he undergoes that procedure, he needs to repair his hip.
Decker had hip surgery today, which the Jets described as “necessary.” The hip injury hadn’t previously been reported, and it’ll add more recovery time to the receiver’s schedule.
As the team’s statement explains, Decker will need an estimated six months to recover from the hip procedure. When he no longer needs crutches—who knows how long that will take—he will have surgery on his shoulder, which has an estimated recovery time of eight months. It won’t necessarily take Decker a total of 14 months to be able to play, given that the surgeries and recoveries go well, but it sounds like he could miss part of next season.
Sometimes it feels like actually playing games is just how football players kill time between surgeries.
