Emotional Cris Carter On Child Abuse: "My Mom Was Wrong"
It couldn't have been easy for Cris Carter to say, but it was necessary in the face of all the people defending Adrian Peterson's alleged abuse of his young son. "My mom did the best job she could do," Carter said, noting that he was hit as a child. "My mom was wrong."
A visibly upset Carter saved his only praise for the Vikings, who deactivated Peterson shortly after the news of his indictment broke on Friday. Carter ranted that being benched is the only possible thing that seems to get through to players and fans to impress just how serious these crimes are.
"The only thing I'm proud about is the team that I played for. They did the right thing. Take him off the field...Take him off the doggone field. Because you know what? As a man, that's the only thing we really respect. We don't respect no women, we don't respect no kids. The only thing Roger and them do—take him off the field, because they respect that."
