Derek Jeter Homers In First At-Bat Off Disabled List
Forget all that Biogenesis nonsense and bask in the glory that is Derek "The Captain" Jeter.
After walking up to the soothing voice of the late Bob Sheppard, Jeets (Jetes?) took the first pitch he saw in his return from the DL and deposited it over the wall in right-center. It was the first home run for a Yankees right-hander since something called Jayson Nix hit one on June 25th.
The home run put the Yankees up 1-0 over the Tampa Bay Rays and was immediately followed by an infield single from Robinson Cano, a single from Alfonso Soriano and a sac fly from Vernon Wells.
Jeter hitting home runs and Cano, Soriano and Wells playing small ball: your 2013 New York Yankees.
Update: Here's John Sterling's call for El Capitan's home run, which is always fun.
