Derek Carr Will Miss At Least Two Weeks With A Fractured Bone In His Back
Photo: Joe Mahoney/ [object Object] Derek Carr left the Raiders’ 16-10 loss to Denver Sunday with a back injury after a pair of Broncos defenders sacked him with five minutes left in the game. Although Raiders head coach Jack Del Rio initially believed that Carr was dealing with back spasms, and Mike Silver reported the QB took a knee to the kidney, Del Rio said today that Carr will be out for at least a couple of weeks with a transverse process fracture.
Each vertebrae has two wing-like spurs called transverse processes and many muscles and ligaments in the spine are anchored on each transverse process. In 2014, Cam Newton and Tony Romo each missed one game with transverse process fractures, although the severity of the injury can vary. The Raiders host Baltimore this weekend and will play at home for three straight games; E.J. Manuel, who threw a game-sealing pick yesterday, and Connor Cook are the other quarterbacks on Oakland’s roster.
