DeMarcus Cousins Apologizes To Everyone Except The Sacramento Bee
Photo Credit: Michael Reaves/ [object Object] A week after DeMarcus Cousins chewed out a Sacramento Bee columnist for writing about his brother—and three days after the Bee released video of the incident—the Kings center has reportedly been fined $50,000 by the NBA. He also released an apology heavy on public relations-speak:
You’ll notice that of all the people and groups Cousins apologized to, the Bee and Andy Furillo (the columnist who raised his ire) are not among them. This is perhaps not surprising given the fact that the paper has been very deliberate in publicizing the incident and criticizing Cousins’s behavior toward the media in general—not only releasing the video, but also running a letter from executive editor Joyce Terhaar on the subject.
The Bee’s ensuing coverage of Cousins’s fine and apology have been relatively straightforward, but they did include a complete history of the suspensions and fines that he has received in his NBA career. This week’s $50,000 appears to be the most he has had to pay for a single incident.
