DeJuan Blair Owes More Than $53,000 To A San Antonio Jewelry Store
A San Antonio jewelry store says Spurs center DeJuan Blair stopped by eight times during March and April 2010, scooping up more than $53,000 worth of merchandise that were likely all paid for with IOUs marked "yeah, right." Hey, we all do it, you know?
The store sued Blair in October, and Blair has thus far ignored the suit. A judge ruled back in February that he must pay up, and if Blair doesn't appear for a deposition scheduled for next Wednesday—when the Spurs are scheduled to play the T-Wolves at home to close out the regular season—he risks being arrested for contempt of court.
The Spurs have also been served with a subpoena, and the store's attorney told the San Antonio Express-News the team has been "uncooperative" in forking over relevant documents. But what does the jewelry have to do with the Spurs?
[Store attorney Elliott Cappuccio] said that what documents the organization did provide showed Blair appeared to use the jewelry as collateral on a $30,000 loan the Spurs organization gave him.
DeJuan Blair has earned nearly $4 million since being drafted by the Spurs in 2009.
