Dee Gordon's Inside-The-Parker Was The Fastest Home Run On Record
Granted, the record only goes back six seasons. But damn, Dee Gordon is fast:
The firebolt second baseman put the Marlins on top for good with his three-run, inside-the-park home run in the second inning of last night’s 5-3 win over the Giants. Just watch that video: when the broadcast cuts back to Gordon, who you figure at that point might be pulling into second, he’s already rounding third and heading for home.
His sprint around the bases was clocked by Larry Granillo of the Tater Trot Tracker at 13.95 seconds. Granillo has been tracking home run trots since the 2010 season, and this is the single fastest MLB homer he’s recorded—with two caveats. (Last year, Gordon legged it around the bases in 13.89, but that was a triple and an error, not a home run. And in 2012, Billy Hamilton clocked in at 13.8 seconds, but that wasn’t in the majors.)
It was Gordon’s first home run of the season, the fifth of his five-year career, and somehow his first MLB inside-the-parker. But they all count the same. “I got a dinger,” Gordon joked.
