David Ortiz Gets Taunted By Fan, Homers, Taunts Back
Photo credit: [object Object] David Ortiz is the closest thing this era of baseball has to a real-life folk hero. Not only is he a hobbled, 40-year-old man who somehow leads all of baseball in OPS, he’s a dude who can still dunk on mouthy fans.
In the top of the fifth inning of last night’s game against the Orioles, Ortiz hit a long fly ball to right field that died over the warning and fell into Mark Trumbo’s glove. As Ortiz returned to the dugout, an Orioles fan ribbed him for not muscling that ball out of the park, and Ortiz responded by holding up his thumb and forefinger, as if to say, “I just missed that one.”
When Ortiz came up again in the top of the seventh, he donged one straight over the fence, and then he let that trash-talking fan hear about it:
David Ortiz will be gone soon, and that sucks.
