D'Angelo Russell On Criticism Of His Rough Rookie Season: "Jesus Still Gets Criticized"
D’Angelo Russell’s rookie season isn’t going so well. He’s only shooting 41%, and his coach seems determined to stunt Russell’s career however he can. So what does he think about the criticism he’s drawn?
Right out of the Martellus Bennett playbook! The Los Angeles Times’ Eric Pincus caught up with Russell, and he partially attributed his uneven year to learning the point guard position on the fly:
“I’ve never really played point guard in my life. I went to college, I was a basketball player and I played every position. I got to this level and point guard was just thrown at me, so it’s something you’ve got to adjust to. It’s the hardest position in this league. I’d rather it be hard now than later. I’ll figure it out.”
Don’t worry man, Russell Westbrook had an even worse turnover rate through his first year learning the position, and he turned out alright.
