Da Brat Ordered To Pay $6.4 Million For Assaulting Ex-NFL Cheerleader
Back in 2007, Shawntae Harris a.k.a. rapper Da Brat hit a nightclub hostess and former Falcons cheerleader in the face with a rum bottle in Atlanta. Harris went to prison for almost three years, but her debt hasn't been fully paid, according to a jury.
Harris's prison sentence was for the original aggravated assault charge, but Shayla Stevens also filed a civil suit that asked for financial compensation. And Stevens won that suit today when a Cobb County jury ruled that Harris must pay $6.4 million—$3.7 million in compensatory damages and $2.7 million in punitive damages—to Stevens, who suffered a brain injury because of the attack, according to her lawyer.
It doesn't seem like Da Brat would have $6.4 million to shell out, but her lawyer has not appealed the decision yet, though she believed it was excessive.
