Cubs Will Remove Fan Messages From Stadium Walls
Photo credit: Scott Olson/ [object Object] Throughout the playoffs, Cubs fans have been writing messages and drawing with chalk on the walls of the team’s stadium (thank you to the tipster who sent us photos of all the nearby dicks they could find scrawled on the ground). The Cubs cleaned everything off when the World Series started, but since the team won, they’ve left all the messages and art up as a tribute to their fans. Unfortunately, the party’s over after tomorrow night.
The Cubs announced this evening that fans have until 5 p.m. local time to chalk the walls up as much as they want before the team fences the area off to start offseason construction work. Here’s what Cubs president of business operations Crane Kenney told fans in a letter, via the .
Due to the start of offseason construction, we will need to fence in these beautiful postseason memorials and remove the artwork from all areas of the ballpark. While we hate to remove these cherished messages, chalk is a fleeting medium. To preserve these images, we will continue to photograph the outfield bleacher walls so we may share these postseason wall messages publicly in the future.
Kenney said that he hoped that crowdsourced chalk art would cement itself as a tradition, so at least Cubs fans will have an outlet for their next 108 title-free years.
