Mandatory Credit: Matt Marton-Imagn Images The Chicago Cubs placed Gold Glove left fielder Ian Happ on the 10-day injured list Tuesday because of a left oblique strain.
The move is retroactive to Saturday. The Cubs selected the contract of highly ranked catching prospect Moises Ballesteros from Triple-A Iowa and, in a corresponding move, moved right-hander Tyson Miller from the 15- to 60-day IL because of a left hip impingement.
Happ, 30, has not played since going 0-for-3 with a walk in a 7-2 loss at the New York Mets on Friday and dealing with oblique soreness.
He is batting .269 with three homers and 19 RBIs in 39 games.
The Cubs selected Happ ninth overall in the 2015 MLB draft out of the University of Cincinnati. He made his major league debut in 2017 and has hit .249 with 153 homers and 497 RBIs in 1,028 games.
Happ was an All-Star in 2022 and won the Gold Glove Award for left fielders in 2022, 2023 and 2024.
Ballesteros, 21, is the Cubs' No. 4 prospect and No. 61 overall, according to MLB Pipeline. The native of Venezuela is batting .368 with four home runs, 18 RBIs, seven doubles, a .420 on-base percentage and .522 slugging percentage.
