Colby Lewis Mad At Opponent For Trying To Help His Team Win
Another day, another MLB player upset over something totally benign.
Saturday's offender was Rangers pitcher Colby Lewis, who could not possibly fathom why the Blue Jays' Colby Rasmus bunted. Forget that it was only the fifth inning in a 2-0 game. Lewis was convinced Rasmus was up to something far more nefarious—trying to improve his batting average.
"I felt like you have a situation where there is two outs, you're up two runs, you have gotten a hit earlier in the game off me, we are playing the shift, and he laid down a bunt basically simply for average," Lewis said after the game.
Oh, the humanity.
Assuming Lewis was serious and this wasn't performance art, what's his deal? Rasmus—he of the .274 OBP—was doing what he could to help his team win in a two-run game! Even for a dispute involving baseball's unwritten rules, this is astoundingly stupid.
