Chuck Knoblauch Charged With Assaulting Ex; HOF Induction Called Off
Chuck Knoblauch's induction into the Twins Hall of Fame has been canceled—not just postponed, but canceled, as in, he simply won't be put into the Twins Hall of Fame—after the former player was arrested and accused of beating up his ex-wife.
From KTRK in Houston, where the 46-year-old lives:
According to a police report, Knoblauch assaulted his wife, leaving a large bruise on her arm, a larger scratch on the left side of her face and a knot on her forehead.
Knoblauch's wife, Cheri, told police her husband was upset she slept next to her child in another bedroom rather than next to him. He allegedly grabbed her and smashed her head against a wall before throwing a humidifier at her.
Knoblauch, who played seven seasons in Minnesota, was elected to the Twins Hall of Fame in January, with his induction ceremony scheduled for August 23. The Twins HOF must have a character clause, because the team issued a statement today saying that his induction is off.
The former future inductee, meanwhile, is out of jail on a $10,000 bond, and has been charged with misdemeanor assault on a family member. He's due back in court on July 30.
Knoblauch was convicted in 2010 of hitting a different ex-wife. He served probation in that case.
