Chicago News Station Calls It The “P.F. Chang Olympics”
Image via ABC 7 So here’s something weird: The other night, Chicago’s ABC 7 ran a graphic about the “P.F. Chang Olympics” during a report on the Pyeongchang Olympics. P.F. Chang’s China Bistro is an American casual dining restaurant. (Like many chain restaurants, there is no one person named P.F. Chang—it’s a combination of the founders’ names.)
So what happened? ABC 7 told it was a mix-up!
Jayme Nicholas, a spokesperson for the ABC affiliate in Chicago, told Inc. that the goof was the result of a mix-up. The graphic was created for a different “satirical piece” put together on Friday by sports anchor Mark Giangreco in which viewers were encouraged to invent their own Olympic sports, but it was mistakenly also used for the serious news story read on Saturday by weekend anchor Mark Rivera, Nicholas said.
Here’s Friday night’s report:
A search of ABC 7’s recent programming shows Giangreco explained his “alternative Olympics” stunt multiple times, none of which really explained it very well or made much sense. But, hey, at least it led to a hilarious screw-up!
