Buccaneers Camp Halted By Potential Staph Infection Outbreak
According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, two Tampa Bay Buccaneers players have been infected with MRSA, an antibiotic-resistant staph infection. Essentially, MRSA is a flesh-eating bacteria that is passed around through skin-on-skin contact. It's some shit you don't want to mess with. Guard Carl Nicks has been sidelined with an infected toe, and kicker Lawrence Tynes recently underwent surgery to have his own infected toe cleaned out.
Not wanting their training camp to become a cesspool of potentially deadly disease, the Bucs shut down the facility entirely and treated it for infection. From ESPN:
"We had a company come in and nuke the building a week ago after the cultures taken from Nicks and Tynes confirmed it was MRSA," [Bucs GM Mark] Dominik said. "It was a precautionary move, but we didn't want to fool with it. Our owners said spare no expense. We had the facility treated, and the league office approved of our actions."
If you think sanitizing the entire facility because of two infections is an extreme measure, you should go ahead and do a Google image search for "MRSA." They should have just burned the whole goddamn camp to the ground.
