Bruins Forward Chris Kelly Fractures Femur On Non-Contact Play

The above video of Bruins forward Chris Kelly suffering a non-contact injury against the Stars tonight doesn’t look too bad—though you never know with ligament and joint injuries—and after a few minutes of examination he hobbled off the ice. But as it turns out, the injury was indeed very, very bad, and very, very weird.

From the Bruins:

“Chris sustained a left femur fracture in the first period of the Bruins/Stars game on Tuesday, November 3 and was transported to Mass General Hospital. He will undergo surgery on Wednesday, November 4 at Mass General Hospital and his expected recovery time is between six and eight months.”

Kelly, who turns 35 next week, is in the final season of a four-year, $12-million contract with the Bruins, and will be an unrestricted free agent in the offseason.. With his season now over, it’s probable that tonight was Kelly’s last ever game as a Bruin.
