Browns Exec Strangely Hints At Something That Bothered Him About Josh Rosen
credits: Jennifer Stewart | source: Getty Browns vice president of player personnel Alonzo Highsmith gave a talk at the Hall of Fame Luncheon Club in Canton, Ohio, on Monday. In the process of explaining his team’s decision to select Baker Mayfield with the No. 1 overall pick in last week’s draft, he dropped a vague and confusing anecdote about former UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen, who was selected by the Cardinals with the 10th pick.
Here is how Highsmith’s bit on Rosen was described by a reporter from the
“I was at an airport,” he said. “UCLA’s volleyball team was in front of me. You heard so much about Rosen. He’s this or that. We all know how people talk.
“So I asked one of the volleyball coaches, ‘What’s Rosen like?’ He said, ‘Aaaaa, you should probably ask his girlfriend. She’s one of the players. She’s over there.’
“I’m like, ‘All right coach. That’s good enough.’
“I don’t know what all this means, but there was something about him that bothered me.”
This is a very strange thing to say. Does it mean he talked to Rosen’s girlfriend and she told him something about Rosen that bothered him? Does it mean the coach’s suggestion alone turned him off on Rosen? Is Highsmith just free associating?
