Broncos Embrace Their Glam Rock Heritage, Welcome Back Gary Glitter
Who knows where the city of Denver's love affair with Gary Glitter began? His song Rock and Roll Part II has been a staple of the Denver sports scene forever, and was most notably heard at Broncos games every time the team got into the end zone. Then Glitter was convicted of having sex with underage girls, and spent three years in a Vietnamese prison. Awk-ward. So suddenly you didn't hear the song at Broncos games anymore. But good news, Broncos fans! Glitter's out of the can! And that means that Rock and Roll Part II is back on the Invesco Field loudspeakers! Who cares about negative connotations? Let's party, Denver! From The Rocky Mountain News:
Things began changing in August, when Glitter was released and cleared to travel overseas. Suddenly, "Rock and Roll Part 2" began booming from Invesco Field at Mile High's speaker systems whenever the Broncos reached the end zone, just like in the good old days. And my aforementioned source reveals that the South Stands veterans are once again delivering their trademark chant over one of the ditty's hookiest passages: "Fuck 'em up! Fuck 'em up! Go! Go! Go!"
Doesn't every high school band have this in their repetoire? I know mine did. Didn't you read the lyrics, Mr. Holland? Anyway, every time you see a Broncos touchdown this season, think of Gary Glitter! I know I will. Meanwhile, we have the Washington Capitals singing Metallica hits. Lord have mercy.
