Mandatory Credit: Dan Hamilton-USA TODAY Sports Toronto Blue Jays closer Jordan Romano underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow Wednesday and will be shut down from throwing for another six weeks, with his return before the end of the season still uncertain.
Romano, 31, has been on the injured list since June 1 with right elbow inflammation. The procedure was done to repair an impingement.
Once Romano starts a throwing program, likely in August, the team will get a better sense of whether he will be able to return this season.
Romano is 1-2 with eight saves in nine chances and a 6.59 ERA in 15 relief appearances this season. A two-time All-Star, Romano is 20-17 with 105 saves and a 2.90 ERA in 231 career relief appearances with the Blue Jays.
Also on Wednesday, infielder/designated hitter Justin Turner was expected to be placed on the paternity list. Catcher Danny Jansen is expected to rejoin the team Thursday when his stint on the paternity list ends.
