Ben Revere Homered!
It finally happened. In his 1,466th career at-bat, his 1,566th plate appearance, the Phillies' Ben Revere hit an honest-to-goodness home run.
It officially went 357 feet, but that'll change in the retelling. The few thousand hardy fans who stuck around through a two-hour rain delay and another Phillies loss will tell their kids and their grandkids that it went at least 365.
According to Larry Granillo's indispensable Tater Trot Tracker, Revere rounded the bases in a respectable 22 seconds. Considering he was sprinting out of the box, that includes some well-deserved time to soak it all in.
"When I got to second base, I didn't know what to do," said Revere, who broke the longest homerless streak to start a career since Frank Taveras got off the schneid in 1977. (Taveras's big moment was an inside-the-parker. He would finally leave the yard two seasons later.)
So what's next for Revere? "I'll try and get 400 more."
