Mandatory Credit: Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports The Houston Astros scratched right-hander Jake Bloss from his scheduled Monday night start against the Pittsburgh Pirates about an hour before first pitch.
The Astros didn't divulge a reason for the decision. Right-hander Tayler Scott is starting place of Bloss.
The move comes one day before the trading deadline. Bloss, 23, is Houston's No. 9 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline.
Bloss is 0-1 with a 6.94 ERA in three starts for the Astros, one in June and two in July.
Scott, 32, is making his first start of the season and the fifth of his career. His usage is likely in the role of an opener.
Scott is 7-3 with a 1.45 ERA in 45 relief appearances this season.
All-Star Game starter Paul Skenes is pitching for the Pirates.
