Another High School Football Player Targets A Referee
High school football is in desperate need of some chill right now. Just this month we’ve seen two Texas high school football players light up a referee who supposedly said racist things to them, another player from Texas shove an official, and a kid use his opponent’s helmet as a mace. Now, we have another case of a player attacking a referee during a game, this time in Tennessee.
In the video above, you’ll see Glencliff High linebacker Malcolm Easley run over a referee with what sure looks like a great deal of intent. The referee, Kyle Gill, spoke to the Gallatin News about the incident, and is convinced that the hit was malicious:
“I think it’s pretty obvious what went down,” Gill said.
Gill said that he had spoken to Easley just prior to the play.
“I had spoken to the player on the play before and he told me that I was in his way,” Gill said. “I asked him how long he’d been playing football and he had to realize that the referees are part of the field. I told him that he should have to avoid me and not the other way around. On the very next play, you saw what happened.”
Easley, who is also the head coach’s son, has been suspended indefinitely by the Metro District Athletic Committee.
