Andy Reid Plans To Start Some Sort Of Super Quarterback This Weekend
Every morning, the fine folks at Sports Radio Interviews sift through the a.m. drive-time chatter to bring you the best interviews with coaches, players, and personalities across the sports landscape. Today: walrus doppelganger and Eagles coach Andy Reid.
Reid joined WIP in Philadelphia with Howard Eskin, Ike Reese, and Merrill Reese to talk about the win this past weekend against San Francisco, how he feels about Kevin Kolb and the way he played this past weekend, what it was that Kolb did well this weekend that he hasn't done, and how tough it will be to sit Vick against Atlanta.
On the win this past weekend vs. San Francisco and how close it was at the end: It was. It came right down to the end. I was proud of our guys for pushing through. That's not an easy thing to do going out and playing a team that was 0-4. Not too many teams go 0-4 in this league and their back was ultimately to the wall and our guys took the same mentality into the game and I thought did a nice job with it. A lot of things we can improve on, but taking a long trip against an opponent like that and being able to finish it off like we did, there were some good things there.
On the play of Kevin Kolb: Well listen. You know better than anybody how I feel about Kevin and Michael. I've got confidence that both of them can play. We're not gonna stick Michael back out there if he's injured and can't function. As much as I know how much he wants to play against Atlanta, we're not going to do anything stupid there. I think everybody on our football team has confidence in Kevin if Kevin is the quarterback out there. When I say it's a beautiful thing, it's a great thing to have if you have two quarterbacks that everybody trusts and have potential to win football games for you.
On what Kevin Kolb did well this weekend that he didn't do in the past: He managed the game and then the defense as opposed to the week before when we saw primarily cover two this crew here mixed different coverages and blitzes and handled all those different looks and kinda took what the defense was giving him and let the offense work for him. I thought he did a great job of that.
On his starting QB this weekend for the Eagles:
It's Michael Kolb.
