All-Star G James Harden arrested on misdemeanor gun charge

Cleveland Cavaliers guard James Harden was released from a Houston jail after he was arrested earlier Saturday morning on a misdemeanor gun violation.

Harris, 36, was traveling through downtown Houston when the group of five with which he was driving was stopped by police at approximately 3:40 a.m. When Harden drove up behind another vehicle, an officer spotted a handgun in the cup holder of his Mercedes, according to court records.

Harden confirmed that the gun was his and was arrested and booked at Harris County Jail, per court records.

He was released on bond, and he has a court date scheduled for June 22.

Harden, a six-time first-team All-NBA selection and 2017-18 league MVP, is with his sixth NBA team. Cleveland acquired him Feb. 4 in a trade with the Los Angeles Clippers for guard Darius Garland and a 2026 second-round draft pick.

He averaged 20.5 points, 7.7 assists and 4.8 rebounds in 26 games (all starts) with the Cavaliers.

On the season, he averaged 23.6 points, 8.0 assists and 4.8 rebounds in 70 games (all starts).

In 1,221 games (1,007 starts) over 17 seasons, Harden is averaging 24.0 points, 7.3 assists and 5.6 rebounds.

Since entering the NBA as the No. 3 overall pick in the 2009 draft, Harden has played for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, Brooklyn Nets, Philadelphia 76ers, Clippers and Cavaliers.
