Alfredo Aceves Is In Mid-Season Form
Alfredo Aceves began tossing batting practice this morning, pretty standard procedure for this time of year. Alfredo Aceves does not know the meaning of pretty standard. So, instead of using it as a slow and steady way to ease into spring training and build arm strength, he used it as another opportunity to show the enormity of his weirdo turn of late. He just started floating pitches up there like it was late September.
Red Sox pitching coach Juan Nieves appeared perplexed and quickly had some words in Spanish with Aceves.
Even after that talk, the lobs continued for a while longer. Only toward the end of the session did Aceves seem to be pitching normally.
At first, manager John Farrell seemed concerned. Was Aceves hurt? Once it became clear it wasn't a health issue, Farrell then became annoyed.
"The one thing I'll say about that is that he didn't go through the drill as intended and we've addressed it," said Farrell.
Last year Aceves first made headlines with his bizarre behavior with a three game suspension for conduct detrimental to the team when he got into it with then-manager Bobby Valentine. Aceves was seen storming out of Valentine's office when he was passed over for a save situation last August. About a week later he and Dustin Pedroia had to be separated after Aceves's went full- weirdo against Oakland.
Opening Day is still 42 days away, but Aceves is ready to rock right now.
