Adrian Peterson Gets Off Probation 15 Months Early
Adrian Peterson was sentenced to two years probation after pleading guilty to misdemeanor reckless assault last November. That probation was suddenly cut short when Judge Kelly Case signed a motion to terminate the sentence last week, and the Montgomery County District Attorney isn’t too happy about it.
Peterson’s attorneys submitted the motion to end his probation on July 29, and Judge Case signed it the next day without holding a hearing. Brett Ligon, the D.A. who brought the child abuse case against Peterson, is not pleased with the fact that there was no hearing, and doesn’t think Peterson fulfilled his probation requirements—80 hours of community service and recording a parenting PSA—anyway. Here’s what Ligon had to say to KHOU:
But Montgomery County District Attorney Brett Ligon said that PSA about positive parenting never happened.
“We were trying to turn a negative situation into a positive, and the judge waiving that requirement kind of robbed us of the opportunity to take a bad situation and turn it into something good for the community,” Ligon told the KHOU 11 News I-Team by phone Wednesday evening.
[...]
The fact of the matter is the State didn’t have an opportunity to be heard, the State didn’t have an opportunity to object,” Ligon said.
Previously, Judge Case called the attorneys in the Peterson case “media whores,” which he publicly apologized for after Ligon demanded he do so.
