A Win Is A Win, But The Blackhawks Have Been Fortunate.
Three out of the four Stanley Cup Finals games have been decided in overtime. The other one was decided by two goals. The Bruins and Blackhawks both have loads of talent, but good fortune's also played a part.
No win has been truly, offensively dominated by either side. Chicago won the first game of the series with a double-deflection goal in triple overtime. A win counts regardless of how ugly it is, but that had a little bit of luck to it. Boston took the next two games after Daniel Paille capitalized on a turnover in overtime in Game 2, and Tuukka Rask shut out the Blackhawks in Game 3. The Blackhawks knotted the series in Game 4 after taking advantage of Boston's sloppy play in its own zone for an overtime goal, but Boston's Chris Kelly also missed a chance that looked like this.
Chicago has a fantastic offense, ranking near the top offensively this season, but they've been struggling this series. Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews just scored his first point of the series in the fourth game, and winger Marian Hossa clearly isn't fully healthy, although he will be playing tonight.
Right now, Corey Crawford is the vulnerability for the Blackhawks. The Bruins have exposed his current glove side weakness. Right after Patrick Sharp scored his team's fifth goal last Wednesday, Johnny Boychuk answered in less than a minute. That shouldn't happen.
It seemed highly unlikely that the Bruins would lose a home game this series. If the Blackhawks want to win it all, their offense need to take advantage of that surprising win and step on Boston's throat now.
