18-Year-Old University Of Maine Freshman Football Player Dies After Collapsing During Preseason Workout
source: [object Object] Darius Minor, an 18-year-old freshman defensive back on the University of Maine football team, died Tuesday during a preseason workout, per a report on the university’s website:
[Minor] collapsed on the field at approximately 1:15 p.m., 15 minutes into a supervised light workout. Campus athletics training staff and local first responders were unable to resuscitate him.
Minor was reportedly one of a group of first-year players who were participating in week three of an early Freshman Workout program at Alfond Stadium, on campus. He is at least the second teenager to collapse and die during a preseason college football workout this summer, after 19-year-old Jordan McNair left a Maryland workout in an ambulance on May 29 and died in a local hospital two weeks later.
The UMaine report says Minor was an All-Central Virginia First Team wide receiver as a senior at Orange County High School in Orange, Virginia, in 2017. Minor was tweeting about his excitement for the start of his collegiate career as recently as Monday afternoon:
